PASSION Passion There is a masculine part to this pretty face. 'I like to try new things,' said Betsy. For her, nothing beats a thrill ride to pump up the energy. But she enjoys a quiet good read too, especially if it relates to design. 'I spend about $200 each month on books and magazines about design.' Pleasure Seeing someone surprised by her designs gives Betsy tremendous pleasure. 'I like to do things that surprise people,' she said. 'It makes me really happy when I get a lot of reaction.' But not all the reactions to her designs have been positive. 'Some are intimidated by my designs - they're very strong.' And if you want a sample of her work, check out Liat Tower at Orchard Road. 'I was part of the team that designed the retrofitting of Liat Tower.' Pursuit Betsy is working as hard as she can now to fulfil just one aim - to retire in the Maldives. 'I've never been there but I've seen pictures of it, and it's a beautiful place.' At first, she wanted to get there by working as a pilot. 'When I was in JC, I was in the flying club, and I literally flew a plane. 'But in the end I decided on design because there's more freedom.'
